Wood or Stapelstein: Which balance board fits your everyday life? A long wooden board is the more suitable choice if you want to build a balance path, a bridge, or a small obstacle course using existing original Stapelsteine. A single Stapelstein board made of lightweight EPP is a better fit if space is limited, if the item is frequently moved around, or if it is intended to serve on its own as a wobbly standing surface.
The tiSsi board is not a small wobble board, but a connecting element approximately 110 centimeters long. The circular cutouts fit original Stapelsteine; according to product specifications, Mini-Stapelsteine are not compatible. Depending on the shape, the stepping surface in the middle is narrower, curved, or wider. This makes the choice very concrete: the narrow version requires more precise stepping, while the wide shape offers more surface area. The 3-piece set combines all shapes for larger obstacle courses.
The manufacturer specifies birch multiplex, a board thickness of 1.5 centimeters, a maximum load capacity of 60 kilograms, and an age recommendation from 12 months to 13 years. The boards are intended exclusively for indoor use. Important: The Stapelsteine shown in the product images are not included in the delivery. Anyone who does not yet own matching stones must plan for them separately.
The original Stapelstein board is made of expanded polypropylene, or EPP for short. According to the manufacturer, it weighs 268 grams and can hold up to 120 kilograms. The low weight makes a real difference in daily family life: a child can easily carry the element to a different play area, and it can be tidied away quickly. The slightly roughened surface, the water-repellent material, and the fact that it can be cleaned with water, a brush, and soap if necessary make it easy to maintain.
The board functions on its own as a wobbly standing surface and together with original Stapelsteine as part of towers or movement structures. Different colors differ primarily in appearance; the basic function remains the same. A special variant is Ocean Mint, whose EPP contains a proportion of recycled maritime material according to the manufacturer.
A 110-centimeter-long wooden board requires free space—not just for the board itself, but also for the supporting Stapelsteine and the room to move around them. The lightweight Stapelstein board is more compact. This is often more practical for small apartments or frequently changing play locations.
The wooden board fulfills its intended purpose when used together with original Stapelsteine. If these are already available, the board significantly expands the system. If you are starting without accessories, the single EPP board is the more straightforward entry point.
The wooden board is the choice for bridges, paths, tunnels, and longer obstacle courses. The EPP board is the choice for rocking, spinning, sitting, or as a single balance element. Neither option dictates a rigid play goal; however, their construction emphasizes different things.
tiSsi specifies that the wooden boards are for indoor use only. EPP is water-repellent and, according to Stapelstein, suitable for both indoors and outdoors, but should be dried individually after contact with water and not stored outdoors permanently.
As a personal gift, a wooden board with a name engraving can be particularly suitable. For a flexible family purchase or as a supplement to a color-coordinated Stapelstein set, an EPP board is often the more obvious choice. Check the spelling carefully before engraving: personalized products generally cannot be returned like non-personalized goods.

The best balance board is not automatically the largest set. The long wooden board is particularly worthwhile for families with original Stapelsteine, sufficient indoor space, and a desire for variable obstacle courses. The lightweight Stapelstein board is the more flexible choice for small rooms, quick tidying, and as a single movement element. Those giving as a gift can get more personal with an engraving; those supplementing an existing system should pay attention to compatibility and color.
The wooden board is a long connecting element for paths and bridges. The Stapelstein board is a lightweight, round EPP element that can also be used on its own as a wobbly standing surface.
Original Stapelsteine are required for the intended setup as a bridge or obstacle course. They are not included in the delivery. Mini-Stapelsteine are not compatible.
A wider stepping surface can offer more space for stepping. The narrow shape sets a more precise path, the curved shape varies the width. Development stage, guidance, and direct supervision are the deciding factors.
According to the manufacturer, the tiSsi wooden board is only intended for indoor use. Stapelstein elements can be used indoors and outdoors, but should be dried individually after getting wet and should not remain outdoors permanently.
The products shown here carry manufacturer recommendations starting from 12 months. However, an age specification alone is not enough: the child's abilities, the setup, the surface, supervision, and all product-specific warnings must also be appropriate.
No. A set offers more building variations, but requires more space and budget. For initial experiences or a small apartment, a single board can be the more sensible purchase decision.
For tiSsi wooden boards, individual shapes and the 3-piece set are optionally available with a name engraving. Check the spelling and the selected variant carefully before purchasing.
